i know what you mean about 100 in 100 days... if the going gets rough, do variations on it to keep yourself interested. switch over to sets of eyes or noses. pick one of the basic emotions to riff off of. etc.
also, don't underestimate the value of tracing. you can get 10 heads done in the time it takes to draw one and you can learn just as much if you concentrate on making good choices for grouping edges, finding rhythms and simplifying.
keep at it though. it will pay off in the long run.
